VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (VAW); WHAT TO KNOW AND DO
Violence against women is now a very serious barrier in the country Nigeria, according to (NDHS 2013) about 3 in 10 Nigerian women have experience physical violence by aged 15. Day by day more girls/women coutinues to be victims of this deep-seated inequality and violence every single day, it's prominent in northern Nigeria as in many part of southern Nigeria. Lack of coordination amongst leading stakeholder and poor implementation of legal frameworks combined with harmful tradition belief, has hampered government and society efforts to address GENDER BASED VIOLENCE.

WHAT IS VAW
Violence Against Women (VAW) is violent and deliberate impropriety manner directed at women and takes many forms, whether moral or physical. According to UN, Violence Against Women is the behavior against women and motivated by sexual neurosis resulting in suffering and harm to women in the physical, psychological and sexual aspects, the threat in any form deprivation and limitation of women's freedom in their private or public life.
WHAT IS AT RISK
Violence Against Women as an important community of health problem that can be encountered in many forms is gradually increasing in the world. Women are exposed to the greatest to possiblity. In this act of Gender Based behavior that is likely to result in physical, social and psychological harm or suffering to women.or cause to coercion.
IMPORTANT IN VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PREVENTION
Whist both men and women can be victim's of Violence, both Against Women, otherwise on the other side is a unique category of violence that relies current equal balance between men and women. Here are some way we can work to put VAW to end or atleast nullify it every single day.
1. Treat all women/girls with respect
2. Show strength by speaking up to men who use their strength for hurting
3. Celebrate all aspects of masculinity, including compassion and sensitivity
4. Report it if you witness or experience violence
5. Think globally and act locally
6. Pledge to never commit or condone act of Gender Based Violence
7. Creating awareness across local radio, television and newspaper
8. Advocate for victim's rights
9. Don't blame victim's and reinforce rape is never the victims fault
10. Education: learn the facts and the prevalence
11. Government should;
*Expand helpline and info sharing
*Limiting risk factors associated with violence
*Modifications to family law and justice system.
HOW CAN COMMUNITY HELP
*Avoid discrimination/stigmatization of victim's
*Respect the rights of women
*Provide support and care
*Ensure women fully participate in decisions and activities that affect their lives.
